Sorry for making threads every month, but how do you guys find out about new games other than the big block busters?

Anyway looking for some sort of combat game, which is heavily research based. Like the UFO series, space empires or Syndicate Wars.

I find out by either magazines, friends or looking on Gamespot or Ign.

Sorry but I cant spec a game, I haven't played UFO, Space Empires or Syndicate Wars.

how can you not of played syndicate wars  one of the all time greats.

What magazines do you read? as I find pcGamer pretty much all blockbusters? And I only find websites good, if I know what I'm looking for rather than just browsing for something which might be fun.

Well I used to read Gamesmaster, but seen as I don't play console anymore I thought it was a bit pointless as that mostly what they have now. I read PcGamer and Pcformat really, maybe some others occasionally, depends on price.

Will check out Syndicate Wars now.

I don't know if your specs include space combat, but you could look into 'Galactic Civilizations 2' + both expansions. Highly recommended.

You could try Sins of a Solar Empire. Daft name but a good 4X game that has research as a major feature.

As for finding out about games. I think this forum is probably as good a place as any.

Yep includes any genre. It's the research, building, fighting I want. But not like Red Alert, some where you actually have a proper and huge research tree.

Will have a look at those two games.

I pretty much only find out about new games from Steam and GameTrailers.

Whilst not as researchy as Syndicate Wars, Alien Shooter is an isometric shooter that has RPG elements and customizations - and it's cheap on Steam :)

Think I'll play some Syn Wars on the PSX emulator tonight :p
