Yeah I know it's lame - but i'm a little dried up on games at the moment. I dont mind spending some cash on things, just not sure what to go for.

Of late I've played through:
HL2 Episodes 1+2
BIA: Hells Highway
FarCry2
Timeshift
COD4: MW
COD: World at War
Oblivion -heavily modded to my tastes
COH: Opposing Fronts
Flatout 2

Just going off the above, mainly being FPS themed stuff with a little variety, I'm hunting around for a new game or 2 to have a blast through.

I tend to prefer single player stuff, although I enjoy the COD MP games somewhat, but might get bored once the achievements and ranks have been obtained.

And categorically NO THIRD PERSON shooters - I really like the look of Max Payne and Hitman etc, but I find 3rd person so darn annoying I just cant get any enjoyment out of playing them. Also not fussed on the look of TF2, and the whole MP thing, have been considering L4Dead... thoughts people? Ta :)

Fallout 3 has been one of the best games to come out last year, it'll last you a while aswell.

Mass effect, I lost a couple of weeks playing this game, should be able to pick it up quite cheap.

L4D is fantastic, but defnitely shines as a multiplayer. Get 3 other mates and get playing versus.

L4D no other game compares to the manic mayhem of fun at the moment...

Am I right in thinking that with L4D you can just hop onto a multiplayer server anytime and "take over" one of the 4 characters, or doesnt it work like that?
(Dont know anyone who has a copy of it yet to ask)

yes, you can 'take over' a bot anytime if their isnt a full 4/4 players in a game, or you can join a lobby to play a game from start

you can't control what server/game/players you end up with if you do this unless you join a friends game/lobby or join a l4d group to get a server list... or use the connect 00.00.00.00:00000 command

Three I'd recommend are Portal (single player), Left 4 Dead (single player & multiplayer) and Team Fortress 2 (multiplayer).

Three of the best games I've ever played!

Have you played through GTAIV at all?

I would advise Trials 2, google it (miniclip version sucks, it's Trials 2 SE you should look for), has a demo, it's on steam, fantastic but simple game I've put many hours into :)

Didnt really like the older GTA games, and it looks terrible without any AA on it, which would seriously annoy me.

Not totally convinced if i'll like the trials game but i'll give the demo a shot - I bought Flatout 2 initially for the g/f after she'd played some console game where the sole point was to cause car crashes, (cant remember its name) she didnt like it but I love it! :D Best racing game I've ever played.

Flatout got boring pretty quick for me.

You need to put an hour or two into the trials game at first, get used to the controls.
You get like 8 demo levels which show you how to do things at first, once you get used to the controls it's addictive.

The best part though by far is competing with other people, you get to see their best time and get ranked, and get to see replays and race against their ghost to learn how they did it better (or worse). But I think you need to buy it for that. Only a fiver if you do though, was £1.49 on steam the other day ;).

get back on oblivion heathen! :p

My current character is a custom-spell wielding mage, with full OOO modding and some other goodies - trouble is i still cant get away from using almost full armour on him, as I just dont seem to get any benefit from enchanting robes or something similar.

You end up with less enchantments to use, no defensive capacity and no real speed advantage so you just end up being trashed when doing any quests :(

Still, for a new game I'm probably thinking of L4D, seems the best rated game by many so I should really join the crowd.

have you considered joining a clan in a MP game? Clans and competitive play brings the game to a whole new level.. hence the longevity of CS1.6. Maybe CS / Cod MP clan would suit you? teamwork and laughs on ventrillo / TS can be priceless and bring a "homely" type feeling when playing with your clan/friends.

If MP Clans is not your thing then L4D is definately worth trying. I managed to pick this baby up for £20 pre-xmas !!!! You play 4v4 . 4 good guys trying to escape zombies, and 4 bad guys playing special zombies with diff special skills. work together as a team or fall like erm a dodo out of a plane? great fun.
