Can you please spec me a gaming build for £1000. I'm making this for a friend. He'll need everything except OS and speakers which he already has. Thinking of going Ryzen but willing to go Intel if its a good deal

thanks in advance

guessing they game at 1080p?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £999.07 (includes shipping: £13.20)

due to the pricing of 8400 now being £220 instead of launch £170 - and max ram speed it can take 3600 which helps with min frame rate is a fortune ... ryzen

^ Thanks for those two builds i'll look further into them. Yes he'll be gaming at 1080p. I presume that 1060 would be good enough to maintain 60 fps in sims games like flight simulator and train simulator etc (he likes his sim games) and the occasional shooter like cod?

easily :) if he was using a 144hz screen at 1080p then gtx 1070 would be a better choice, but greater costs .

Guessing even a GTX 1050 Ti could do the trick but if in budget- might as well push it to the max .

just went with a large SSD instead of smaller one and large HDD

The builds above are ideal for 1080p... I had a 1060 in my previous build and played Euro Truck Sim with no issues what so ever, Youll be impressed by the performance.

@Drizmod 1060 6gb is better for older titles, rx580 8gb is better for newer titles, on average, they're neck and neck
the benefit of going rx580 is that freesync monitors are cheap and plentiful, whereas g-sync monitors still cost an arm and leg to buy in comparison.
so imo, going mid-range cards, 580 8gb is a no brainer really.

however, mid-high/high-end cards, there's only nvidia at the moment, as amd's offerings are currently lol-tastic (but your budget doesn't allow for that without compromising on other parts)

ps: is the monitor and peripherals in a separate budget?? i just re-read your opening post and it doesn't look like your friend has a monitor/kb/mouse either, and none of the builds here have specced in those

Would the Rx 580 be much better than the 1060? I'm liking that build

depends on your outlook - i like both- i like the fact your can get a freesync screen cheaper !

My basket at Overclockers UK:

indeed the g-sync is 240hz but is on massive discount sale- normally its £400

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £409.49 (includes shipping: £10.50)

does use more power and a little hotter but not as hot as rx480 before it !!!

amd has improved its drivers ten fold to!

at the end of the day- both chipsets are good

just a shame as theres a massive gap between gtx 1060 > gtx 1070 and rx 580 > vega 56 :(

I think ill got with the rx580 build as his budget for a monitor is £250 so can get a nice freesync monitor

that memory price though wow...
