Hi guys,

Although I've been gaming online for a good long while now, I've never actually got around to getting myself a headset, but with the addition of left 4 dead to my collection, I don't really feel like there's any alternative :D

Can you recommend me a decent gaming headset which, to start with, I shall be mainly using for playing l4d with my pals ;)

I also play tf2, cod1/uo/2/4, bf2 etc, so compatibility with these titles (and near future releases) would also be handy.

Unless you can convince me otherwise, a budget of around £50 is my starting point.

Cheers,

SW.

I've got 5.1 Medusas and to be honest, they aren't a patch on a high quality stereo headset (Sanneisers are good). Several people recommend going this route and then buying a separate attachable microphone.

What HeX has said, a decent pair of stereo headphones and a seperate mic will be much better than a headset. I've got the DR100's and a mic, works a treat ;)

Google elara clip on mic, small, cheap and does the job.

.......Once you play with headsets your wil never go back to playing on speakers, its VILE.

I Can't NOT go bad playing on speakers :P

Icemat Siberia Headset are good :). i need to buy new onces tbh

If you want cheap and cheerful I picked up a vibrating headset from pc world for £19.50 yesterday. I only got it because it was exactly the same as my favourite, the £34 audiofx force feedback headset - you can spot it by the distinctive 3 lights on the earpieces. No idea why its been rebranded but im not complaining. Its gimmicky but the sound is good and its damn comfy. For under £20 its a bargain.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

Headphones and a separate mic seem to be the way to go then? That said, one of my gaming mates (owns a cyber-cafe) has just recommended me the Creative Fatal1ty Gaming Headset. He says, 'there a reasonably cheap, but high quality, all-in-one.' I might call down there later and try one out first :)

I thought they sucked tbh :P Cheap rebranded poo!

Dropped mine once and they fell apart lol :S

If youre going to buy headphones and a clip on mic, why buy nice headphones and a cheap mic? Youll be able to hear fine but youll sound like youre speaking to your mates using 2 baked bean cans and some string! Either that or your cheap mic will broadcast every sound you make and your friends will be able to hear you type/scratch your balls and fart.

Ive got an average Sennheiser headset which sounds fairly ok for the price and the mic has noise cancelling too which is nice.

Like anything in this world, you generally get what you pay for :P

yeah let us know what theyre like. They have a detachable mic, although why youd want a standalone mic i thave no idea. the mic attached to headphones will pick up "get him off me! geeettt himmm offf meeeee!" just fine.

Yeah, got mine for £15 via a certain deals website. It feels a bit cheap and it isn't amazingly comfortable, but that might be because I have a big head and stupid hair. All in all, ok for the job.

it depends how serious you are... Personally I user a nice logitek set from pcworld, £15, just very simple ones, mainly because I like the way it goes behind my head rather than over it.

Wow! Is that £15 for the Creative? If it is, any chance of emailing me info in trust ;)

Hopefully be going to see the Creative in the flesh tomorrow...

Medusa 5.1 ... despite all the haters.

I quite like the volume on these, but do you not find that the sound quality is a bit pap? Not to mention the directional sound being a bit off at times (though I loved it when I first got them).

Perhaps mine are just worn-out..
