Hi guys,

I'm in need of a new keyboard, I'm going to blame me being no good on Battlefield down to my keyboard :p I'm currently using some generic Acer one, so it's not very 'gaming' as you can imagine.

Only thing I really want on it are media keys, but it's not a huge bug bear if not.

Price, say up to £80, I just want the best possible keyboard for the money.

Thanks for any and all the help I get :)

I'd recommend the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 - I've been using it for a while now and it's easily the best keyboard I've ever owned. Goes for around £25+ depending on where you look, and it has media keys, macro keys (with a recording button for keystrokes), 3 levels of backlighting, 3 configurable profiles that you can switch between with the press of a button, and it's pretty slim to boot.

I was looking at the Sidewinder, but everywhere seems to have sold out/discontinued. Don't fancy buying off eBay or places like that in case there's something wrong or anything like that. Shame really because I do like the X4, saw one going for a bargain on Amazon, only £800, I'd have bought it but not paying the £5.10 shipping, not made of money!

That is insane! I really hope they haven't discontinued it :( it seemed like a very popular keyboard choice and was going cheap only a couple of months ago. That shipping cost is a damned rip off! I was going to recommend the X6 for £999 but they have the audacity to charge £9.59 for delivery on that one.

Afraid it looks like my secondary recommendations are unavailable now too :\

I was rather disappointed to see it discontinued because it does seem to have what I want in a keyboard, looks smart as well. Well that's just outrageous, I was going to purchase that but no way am I paying that much for delivery. They've just missed out on a sale.

Then you really need/want a Mechanical keyboard.

These are all Cherry MX Reds and there is a few within budget. The Qpad and the CM Storm Quickfire TK at least, feature media keys albeit by pressing two buttons together.

The CMstorm Trigger is a brown switch and £9 over budget but it maybe worth considering: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-014-CM&groupid=702&catid=2705&subcat=2709

If you can stretch your budget and get teh best mechanical keyboard for under a hundred then you have the Logitech 710+ in a brown switch or the Corsair K70 with a red key (if you shop around).

HINT: the latter is the best. Thats what I am using to type this lol.

Thanks for that link Chris, I'm interested in the CM Storm Quickfire, seems a very good keyboard going on reviews.

I was looking at the Corsair K70 actually, only thing about it is, is it worth the extra money for it over the CM Storm Quickfire?

Hello guys

Sorry OP for hijacking your thread, but i am too after a new keyboard, same budget around £80, must be backlit and have audio ports, not so fussed about machanical, but would be a bonus, i have a Siatek Cyborg v7 but the number 8 on the top line isn't working..

Wow it's not been working for months now and i kid you not it's just started working but i still can't do the star sign thing.

Anyway, any advice would be great

Have a look at the Logitech G710+

Moved onto it from a G12 > G15v2 > G710+

Great keyboard :)
Uses cherry MX Brown keys and each key is LED backlit with the brightness being covered as a whole keybaord and the added feature that WASD can be controlled seperatley.
does have a selection of random media style keys and a volume rocker :)

Also it has a USB passthru which has come in immensely handy.

The Strike 5 is available for £79 on the web at the moment. Just ordered 2. Going from a G15 Rev1 (its getting on a bit now). Hope it will be good just got a Mad Catz mouse and like that so hoping key board is as good.

i got my qpad mk-50 for £60, my first mechanical keyboard. Loving it, so easy to type with and even after 2-3 hours of gaming my fingers doesn't feel as tired as before.

I just got a Qpad MK-80 with Cherry MX Blue's. It's £16 over your budget but it's got everything you're after and it's a great board. You can also get it with Cherry MX Reds, Browns and Blacks aswell.

Here's the link to the one I got: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=KB-000-XM&groupid=702&catid=2705&subcat=2707
