price, hm.. not decided, maybe £800 not much more.

Best graphics card possible.

wifi

What can i get for that price?, anything good?

would those external graphic card casings take off any time soon btw? if so id need a slot in it to support it.

At your price range, for a gaming laptop I'd advise looking at zepto and zoostorm laptops. You wont get anything amazing, but these 2 companies will probably get you the best bang for buck laptops.

I was going to get one of these, but then I discovered a discontinued Fujitsu-Siemens 6 months back with the mobility x1800 for just over £1k, which was stronger than anything else I could get hold of at the time, not the best chip, and struggles immensely with stuff like Supreme Commander at 1440x900 but is probably at least as capable as a 7600GT, and was more powerful (by 3dmark judging), than my brother's x800bravo based machine.

I checked Rock but they didnt really have anything that fast in a budget region.

IE with Zoostorm you can get

Zoostorm 4-6623 15.4" Advanced Premium Laptop 2GB 250GB HD Core Duo T7500 Vista
Processor Type - Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (Santa Rosa)
Processor Speed - 2.2GHz Dual Core CPU
RAM - 2GB DDR2
Hard Drive - 250GB
Display - 15.4 inch TFT display
Widescreen Type - WXGA (1280 x 800)
Video Chipset - nVidia 8600MGS
Video - RAM 256MB Dedicated
Optical Drive - DVD/RW
Operating System - Microsoft Windows Vista Premium
Wireless LAN - Built in Wireless LAN 802.11g 54Mbps
Weight - Kg 2.9

Price - £680

Zepto are more expensive, but you usually get a lot more customisation options, a larger screen with a higher resolution, and the 8600GT not GS.

The Zoostorm is a very powerful laptop for the price, if i wasnt so opposed to gaming on Vista till the drivers are better, and I hadnt bought earlier, I'd definately be buying that one.

For the price I think it's a good deal :)

graphics cards in laptops cant be replaced right? if not.. how are those external caddies i heard of coming along?

btw that spec on the zoo seems great for that price, so if i added 100 - 200 more i can have a better gfx card added? u did say they do custom

The zoostorms look good to me, but i'm looking for something with a better graphics card in it.. any other suggestions?

im looking at the zepto laptops right now. The price goes up quite a bit just by going from 2-4gb, would 4GB even be needed in a laptop?

and 8800m are just around the corner right?

maybe i can go to 1 grand but no more

Sorry for my last post - tis late :D

Gaming laptops have a very low performance:price ratio and IMo aren't even worth investing in. The lack of... everything you get in a desktop.

I would highly doubt you would get a 8800m when they come out for less than £1150. Which is a shame considering you can get a 8800 desktop system for £700 - which would out perform a 1.1K laptop.

Whats the reason you are going for a laptop over a desktop?

just fancied one since sometimes i go to my mothers place and she hasnt got a desktop there, same if i go to other places.. or the computer is being used by someone else :p

i was going to get a pc upgrade later this year anyway, processor and motherboard at least. So i could go for one of them zepto laptops or something with a 8600m gt but it still comes to over 800 quid just for that with the lowest processor.

I might leave it then, if it wont be too good for playing games as you say.

Did you read the spec I posted mate, 8600GT, 2GB, 1.8 c2d (upgradeable) for £550. Not interested in a dell?

Optical Drive: DVD±RW Super Multi
Graphics: ATI Radeon X1700 supporting 512MB HyperMemory
Wireless LAN: 802.11a/b/g

yeah it looks good, but im not sure how it performs really, from what i could find out, the 8600gt seems to perform just a bit better than a 1900 xt desktop card?, because id want it to perform reasonably well on some upcoming games like Left 4 dead, maybe crysis.

i suppose that cpu could be overclocked by a good few hundred mhz without hurting anything too right?.

Actually, with that price.. it would be good for me, as i can afford to upgrade my pc later on in the year aswell.

Btw, forgot to mention.. there is a laptop out soon with a HD dvd burner, though i dont know how much it will be.

It comes with a 2.0ghz for £50 more, or 2.2 for £110 more. Can also make it Vista Ultimate for £50 more, and upgrade the screen for various prices.

You can have 4gb RAM too, but thats for 285 quid more :p
