MMM...I'd think you'd want dual core at that price too?

Have a look at the bits I've got in my sig, throw in a samsung dvdrw and a gskill 2GB ZX kit and it'd cost about 800, and runs very nicely my version too, and thats with 1GB of RAM. Might even be able to fit an xfi into the budget too :)

I'm afraid I can't quite throw in an X1900XT, they have gone up in price a little recently but this ought to be suitable, the X1800XT will run everything you want with no problems whatsoever and it is under budget, have a couple of drinks on me ;).

only 1 hdd only 1 optical drive only 1 video card should be fine,
also there is enough room in the budget to change to the sonnata 2 case with the 450w smart power if need be ;)

if it were me though I would save up another 50 quid or so and go for 2 gb RAM

as i understand it, the trouble isn't the overall power usage as much as it is how much its using per rail, a good quality power supply with a lower total output would handle it better than a poor quality one with a much higher output

according to this calculator http://www.extreme.outervision.com/index.jsp the above specd machine would only use a little over 300 w

I think thats your best bet as everything is balanced out. Should be really nice rig.

StarShock's spec is also very good, but I'm not keen on VIA chipsets :)p) and 1GB ram might hold you back in some games :)

Nice spec... Although I might be tempted with the extra cash to go for the OCZ PC3200 Platinum, also the MSI nF4 Ultra Mobo is much better for clocking!

how is the psu that comes with the antec? I thought most case+psu combos were crappy?

Which one, the Sonata or the SLK3800? It doesn't matter too much, either are good PSUs although the Sonata is a bit more powerful. Antec make good standalone PSUs so although there are some poor combinations once you get to this sort of price range you are normally buying quite a good combination :)
