Spec me a gaming PC for WOW please

Hi Guys,

Currently I have an I7 laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M and 8GB ram it is struggling a bit with WOW in high populated areas such as timeless isle and raids. As I am unable to upgrade the graphics I am looking to build myself another desktop PC.

Please can you advise on a setup that will allow me to play the game on high or ultra settings with high FPS. Money is an issue so what I am looking for is the best spec bang for bucks budget build.

I already have a case but that is all I have. I also require a monitor. 22" or 24" with 1920x1080 res atleast. No OS required.

The ability to over clock would be great too. I am open to Intel or AMD processors. Just want the best spec for running on high / ultra for the cheapest price.

budget of around £600 if possible but can stretch if not achieveable with monitor.

With no budget posted it's quite hard to spec a system for you.

Hi sorry I should have put my budget. Do you think I could achieve high /ultra with a budget of £600 ? Or is that madness with a monitor included ?and would like to build myself to cut costs. Thanks
 
Put this together what do you guys think? Please let me know if there is better alternative. Will this spec allow me to play the game on high / ultra? If not let me know what I would need to upgrade or change.

Doesn't seem too bad, I'd be tempted to go for an SSD instead of the other harddrive though and also a bit better graphics card if you want to max it out, the processor works ok on wow, as I use one with a 7970 ok, Although wow does favour intel and nvidia
 
i5/i3 and any mid end video card. you need IPC, strong as hell IPC for wow. Dont get the FX 6 core. Sure its a good chip but not for wow or other single threaded games.
 
Reading more and more that WOW favours an Intel CPU over an AMD. Please could you recommend a decent mid range motherboard and Intel CPU that will allow me to achieve high / ultra settings. I would also like to be able to overclock.

Should I go for 1155 or 1150? Would 1150 give me better future proofing? Is 1155 outdated tech now?

I swear my brother has stage in his life between the ages of 12-15 where he didnt leave his room and played WOW.

Not really an MMO guy myself!

£600 all in with a monitor should be doable but with some sacrifices.

You will be better off with a 4670k and a z87 motherboard. If you are going the intel route

I literally refuse to play multiplayer games because I know it would wreck my life. I'm already behind on revising for exams in December which determine partly if I'll get a job in a couple years and thats just from the slightly less addictive single player games.
 
WOW is a minor league player in the addictiveness stakes in comparison to Lineage II. That game was a beast. The only game where you could play for 8 hours whilst "boxing" a healer and a buffer, killing the same mobs over and over again and all for a 3% XP gain. Madness and 3 years of my life were gone in the blink of an eye.

I now play WOW but only when there's nothing else to do.

All MMOs should carry a health warning. ;)
 
wow is cpu intensive I used to run it on my 3570k at 4.5ghz with a 560ti 1gb on ultra

maybe something like this

Hi thanks for taking the time to spec me the above build. I have been hearing that intel is the way to go for WOW pretty much everywhere. So think I will most likely be extending my budget and going for

Already getting myself in trouble with my partner she is definitely not impressed. Wait till she sees the new system turn up in the living room lol

I started playing at the start of burning crusade and it became like a second job was getting in from work at 5pm and playing till 1am every night and all day and night at the weekends. Dark times... Trying more of a casual approach this time if its even possible...
