After a gaming pc to replace my laptop

Budget is approx 1k

Want a gtx 970

Should I go i5 or i7?

Need monitor and keyboard/mouse etc any suggestions?

Thanks

@The_One?
Do you want to be overclocking your processor? If not, then you can save some cash on the processor (at least an i5 4440) and not have to buy an aftermarket heatsink (unless the stock cooler is noisy/high temps) leaving more money to put towards a graphics card.

I also have to harp on (for the umpteenth time) that now is the worst time to buy a graphics card, since new cards are being released, possibly next week. One may find they could offer better performance for the cost, or current cards could decrease in price. If you want to order, just do what I did and buy everything except the graphics card. Then buy the graphics card next week when we all know what's the best at the £250-£300 mark. The only thing you lose is time. Plus the parts will take a day or two to arrive, by which time hopefully you'll be able to order the graphics card.

Might be able to manage a cheaper i5 then get a 980

The cashback only works on the CPU+boards listed in the topcashback link, basically it is only the two retail "K" socket1150 CPUs and qualifying boards that get this.

Plus with that 1080P monitor there's no need for a 980, the 970 will smash it.
