my budget is £1200, and i need a monitor and keyboard but not an os, mouse or speakers. my own knowledge is sadly very limited. i was thinking of purchasing one of the ultima series pc's from ocuk, but i've decided to make the effort to do it myself. my main desire to be able to play all the latest games on highest settings; i will be using it for very little other than gaming and surfing.

also, if anyone can point me in the direction of a good (simple) assembly guide, that would be very helpful also!

cheers

+1 That's perfect.

thanks for the responses guys. both seem like really good builds to me but at the same time that's not saying much :)

i do however know enough to notice they are both quite different. for instance jony, your build includes two graphics cards whilst only paying £150 for your cpu. grimley however you go for a far more expensive cpu in the krypton black ops overclocked bundle coming in at £600 while you go for a slightly cheaper graphics card and only one of them.

so i guess my question is this. what are the benefits of each build over the other? what are the benefits of having 2 graphics cards as opposed to just one, would going for a less expesnive cpu in any way hinder my performace, and also jony, what is the 69xx series which you refer to?

as i'm sure you can tell, i know extremely little so i'm sorry if my questions come across a little ignorant. the important thing is i am trying to learn! thanks for any and help once again guys :P

For what you are hoping to use the pc for you would find no hindrance in going for the i5 760.
You could go for just one 6870 to further save money on the build and then add in if you feel it is required.

cheers for that. very informative link there! with regards the graphics cards, what are the benefits of the dual 6870's against just one say? also, can anyone tell me a little about the 69xx series?

edit: posed in reply to mayfair's post.

can anyone tell me? sorry, i am sure this must seem like the most obvious question to all the knowledgeable people on here. but i am still learning and i don't know how two of the same graphics cards as opposed to just the one would benefit a gaming pc such as the one am i intending to build.

thanks.
