Repost as i posted in wrong forum :/

Been a few years since be built a pc, been on console. So very out of the loop!
Last pc was built down into a htpc.

Don't think I'll reuse any of it, aside from maybe the Corsair Hx 1000 psu as I'm guessing it's still a beast. I'd need to replace it with another so I still have the the eh htpc.
Old spec used to be

Q9550
4870 X2
4870 1gb
Asus Rampage Formula X48 or x58 I forget.
8gb ocz hyper x

For this build, I want to avoid buying for the sake of it being gamer branded etc.
I want the best bang for my Buck.

Budget is flexible, but ideally around 1k. Need a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and headset. but these can be on top if needed.
Monitor wise I'm looking at a single 24, don't have room for triples anymore.
Headset will be a Sennhesiser 350 or 360.

Ive rarely overclocked stuff, Which has made my previous builds a little wasteful.
So I'm looking at maybe an i5 or i7, Which can be over clocked, a fair whack, and be stable.
Ram wise I'm thinking 16 or 32, seems to be much more needed these days.
Gpu, something amd, not sure on specs of 6 or the the 7 series?
Mobo I have no clue.

Will only listen through headset, so not sure if a sound card is needed for gaming, have an old xfi, but it's in use....

Use wise, will primarily be Bf3, then bf4, though may need a Gpu upgrade for that? Seeing as it's 18 months away.

Need an os, have vista 64 on htpc. 7 on laptop, but partitioned recovery.
Read about some deal getting 8 for 25-30 when upgrading from any windows could onwards? Even the 8 trial?

Monitor wise, some of the hanns g and benq seem to get good reviews?
.Sorry for the essay, just eager to get it built but know nothing of new tech.
Is there anything n the horizon I should hold out for?

Ill be building myself. More than happy to do so.

Ive been looking today, kind of settled on

i5 3570
Some incarnation of a 7950

Looking at the benq xl2420t, though may be a bit ott. 120hz seems to be getting good reviews though.

Should i be looking at SSD for OS and games? I wont need much storage otherwise, as my htpc has 3tb.
Have loads of HDDs should i need an emergency one.

Ive run sound cards before, but always had speakersd too. This is solely headset. SO soundcard is worth getting too then ?

Only things I would change would be case, the Pro Gaming Case is a good budget but there are some nice ones for a bit more £50+ out there.

Like ?

Im really not into cyborg looking junk.

Last case was a Lian Li, but not spending that again!
Before that was an Ininity Zor.

The Antec 300 looks ok, basic and functional.

Monitor wise, i used to game on a Samsung 22". And was happy.
Is it worth getting the BenQ ? Its double the price, but 120hz looks good. And FPS is my main thing, so should be applicable.
Or am i just wasting money.

Lets say i want a PSU too, something like Corsair HX650 ok ?
My HTPC is a bitch to work on, or should i take the time, being that it was a £150 psu...

Thanks

Quite like the Shinobi. Ill read some reviews regarding cooling, seems to be quite enclosed, though has space for plenty of fans.

Its got plenty of room for fans so cooling shouldn't be an issue. You might be looking at the "core" one? This comes with no fans xD

The one you linked, fans included are normally crap anyway ?!

I dont know how to link my basket? Got a little build in progress to share

Legend cheers

PSU is to replace my HX1000 - Assuming it will run a Q9550, 4870, htpc rig.

Mobos i have no idea, added a couple, same for monitors. Though tbh, im leaning to the 120hz one, as it is the only thing that displays all the other money im spending, so kind of makes sense to me.
Reviews seem to suggest its a massive noticable difference in smoothness etc.

I think the 240 SSD will be plenty for me, OS around 10-15, leaves almost 200 ish for games. It wont have music, films etc on. Ill get another drive if i ever use it for that.
Assume i can use just an SSD ?

Think these are the things i need to get nailed down, rest is more down to my preference , case, keyboard, etc.

I was buying it purely for the 120hz. Wouldnt be looking at 3D gaming for years yet, its barely taken off with 3D Blu Rays!
Ive always used Samsung for as long as i can remember and always been happy. Dell have always been good from what i gather, but used to be a premium price.

Thanks again for all your input
