Hi all

I have been umming and aahing about building a gaming PC for a while now and I think it is time to take the plunge. I am so far out of date with PC hardware though so I am hoping you lovely souls can guide me in the right direction. The PC will live in my living room under the telly and perform the duty of HTPC and gaming/steam box. So, with this in mind I want powerful but as quiet as possible. Doesn't have to be silent, but the quieter the better. Budget is give or take £1000.

I am pretty set on using the BitFenix Phenom as my case. I like the look of it and it will fit in the space it is required to. Also, I want a 128GB MX100, 512GB MX100 and a 6TB WD Green for hard drive duties.

Case: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-147-BX
128GB MX100: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-035-CR
512GB MX100: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-037-CR

Other than that, I Was thinking an i5 Devils Canyon with 8GB RAM and a 970. Seems to be the "go to" components for a decent gaming rig at the moment? Feel free to spec up whatever you like though.

So, do your worst and spend my money for me! Thanks in advance :)

Why do you want two SSDs?

Looks good, thank you. I like to keep things seperate, more so than just a partition. smaller SSD for OS and apps and second for games library.

Would you recommend replacing the case fans with anything to make it quieter?

What are your views on an AIO water cooling solution instead of air cooling? I don't mind spending a bit more if it yields better results.

I dont think the fans are that bad, if you spend more money on swapping out the fans then I'm of the mind you may as well get a better case to start with.

A modest air cooler will be ok, still get a good overclock out of it.

Thanks Shivy011, I will take a look.

I am going to have to re-think the case as it will not fit in the space I wanted to put it :( I currently have an HP Microserver and there is a little bit of space around it that a new case could fill but I am going to have to find something pretty close to those dimensions, which are: Dimensions (WxDxH) 21 cm x 26 cm x 26.7 cm. The depth can be a lot deeper as the unit it needs to fit in is quite deep.

Am I living a pipe dream or can you think of any case that fits the bill that will also fit the above mentioned components?

That case will never fit the components I want though. The 970 is well over 200mm. I guess I will just have to try and find a different home that will accomodate a bigger case.

Thanks for all your help :)

Oh, since it is a mini ITX case I will need a different mobo to what you specced out. Mind supplying your wisdom one more time for a suitable replacement?
