Going to treat myself to a new gaming system, decided to save up and spend about £1100, max £1200. Ill only use it for gaming, only tower & OS is needed.
I have a Samsung SyncMaster 205Bw Monitor 20" Im quite happy with it, so take that into account when speccing the gpu etc.

Spec away :D

Maybe add an aftermarket cooler as well. Coolermaster V8 and the Noctua 1366 are both good.

It's a bit over budget but you can easily reduce this price by getting the UD3R as opposed to this mobo, and get a cheaper PSU. :D

Fledge.

That CPU cooler won't work, it's the wrong socket type.

Vista Home Basic is awful, you wan't that.

4870X2, is slightly overkill for his screen.

The i7 920 D0 stepping is a few pounds more and is better.

Oh nuts I forgot to take out the cooler form my last spec :(

What's wrong with vista basic -- It's cheap and does the job....right? :P

With the gfx card I was thinking of futureproofing, and opening the WHOLE world of games. If it's overkill then a cheaper one will od wonders for the budget :) Maybe the Asus 4890?

I don't have a clue about D0 stepping though xD
Thanks for pointing these things out before the OP did :P

^^This as well as your psu is not modular and your £81.62 over budget too

Apart from these things Great spec ;)

(I did mention price)

Does the PSU have to be modular? Personnaly I've never had one so I don't know the advantages :)

damn this word is driving me nuts especially when the OP is buying a £1200 rig. should be banned from this forum imo

;):D I aim to please.

What I'm saying is, I don't think he'll reap the full benefit of such a powerful card with the resolution he's going to be playing at. If you can fit the card into the budget without compromising other components then great.

Have a look at the MS website and compare the difference between Basic and Home Premium, almost like night and day.

D0 stepping allows for better overclocking and lower temperatures.

Well you learn something new every day :)
And in this case, two things! ^^
