Hi all,

It's that time of year again that I am itching for a new PC :D
I sold my CPU/Mobo and GPU back in June to pay for a holiday (and because I rarely play PC during the summer). I now really want to get back in to BF4 and would like to play Outlast and Star Citizen to name a few.

I have quite a bit of decent kit which I didn't sell, so it can be reused - although I would like a new case as I have had the Phantom for 4 years now, a great case but I am bored of it.

Kit I have already:
Corsair H100
8GB G.Skill 1600MHz RipjawsX
120GB Kingston SSDNow V300 SATA3
2TB Western Digital Green SATA2
Corsair AX850 PSU
SoundBlaster X-Fi XtremeMusic PCI-E
DVD RW drive
NZXT Phantom Case White
4x 120MM Corsair Fans
2x 120MM NZXT Fans
2x 120MM Scythe GT fans
UV cathode
Blue cathode
4x Red LED's

Accessories
Iiyama Prolite GB2773HS-GB1 27" 144Hz
Corsair M65 Mouse
Corsair K70 Keyboard Cherry MX Red

Sitting in the above I have the below APU/Mobo combo which has just kept me going between gaming builds:

AMD A8-6600K 3.90GHz (Socket FM2) Black Edition APU
Gigabyte F2A88XM-DS2 AMD A88X Micro ATX Motherboard

I of course don't expect those to be reusable in a gaming PC but can sell them both on the MM for £60 or so.

I am not really interested in SLI/Crossfire and never have been really just for the additional problems it gives. I guess a 290 is still the best GPU for the money but am open to suggestions. I really like Corsair and NZXT cases, especially the Corsair cube shape case, can't remember the model number.

I am perfectly capable of speccing my own PC but like to create a discussion about it - so lets go!

thanks in advance :)

i7 required for gaming or could I get away with i5 without too much performance hit?

Ah nice, the Gigabyte board looks great especially with the free keyboard meaning I could sell that or my K70 to raise some more funds.

Do we think i5-4690K or deffo go i7-4790K if I can afford it? Based on fact I will likely never go SLI with it?

Howbout this:

If I were you I'd go 4790k just for longevity, but the 4690k is no slouch!

These look good, I forgot about the bundle deals. I am gonna bite the bullet today as I really want a machine to build and play with over the weekend :D

Based on some reviews I am leaning towards the i7, especially as it has excellent base clock of 4.4GHz turbo and if I get it in a bundle deal I can offset some of the cost.
I think I will keep my case as the Phantom is still great looking and has tons of space to work with.
