Looking for some advice about getting a garage, we live at the end of a terrace that is accessed by a single foot path so I'm only looking for something to store my bike in, some push bikes with enough room to work on my bike and keep my tools in there.

Because we already have an extension on the end of the house we can't build it out of concrete blocks due to planning permission etc so I'm looking at Metal/Wood garages but I'm unsure as to which would be best. I guess the biggest factor would be that metal garages could suffer from condensation/moisture build up and the wood one would be higher maintenance especially as there's a huge pine tree hanging over the area that throws its sap everywhere!

Here's a picture of where it will be to give an idea, at present I just have some concrete slabs which I park my bike on. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y27/Phoenix1982/R6/IMAG0291_zpscbc7cbce.jpg

This year we will be getting a mini digger in as we're going to do a fair bit of work on the garden so leveling the place out shouldn't be a problem. In terms of size an "average" single garage would be adequate. So if anyone has any advice/experience on this it would be much appreciated!

That thing Foxxy posted looks ace if you have a grand laying around. Personally I'd just bolt a frame to the side of your house with wood, Sink a couple of decent posts as far away from the house as you want the width then build your own out of wood. Make sure to have the house side higher than the post side so you have a nice slope for drainage. Prob cost a few hundred quid, 500 top if you went for it.
Drill straight through the house wall for your leccy as well, I could turn that space into a 2 bike long wooden garage with leccy in a day.
Pics when done. :D

There is your answer... 4T5 will do it for you in 1 day! :D

Sounds like a deal :p

I did see some of those Asgard garages and they looked interesting although maybe a tad on the little side for how I imagined it but definitely one option depending on how much I'm allowed to spend :D

I know it's a little off topic but I have a brick build garage and telling the insurance company that I have no windows knocked off another 4% , just a thought for people to consider.

Friend of mine has a wooden garage he built insulated two door entrance like fort knocks awesome and good sound proofing extractor fans e.t.c neighbours not even aware when we are working on a bike plus an alarm which will psychologically damage you when entering :D

is there a maximum size you can go with the bolted on the side of house option ?
could i go the total length of my gable end ?

some timber posts and some sheets of corrugated iron and build your own

or one of these just to annoy the neighbors:D:D:eek:

Might be a slight issue getting that thing in, would have to get it airlifted :D

My biggest concern with the wooden shed/garage thing was how much upkeep would be needed more than anything, not that it's a huge problem but I was told the tree sap from the huge oak tree hanging over the area wouldn't be good for it. I'm no expert but we don't get much sunlight around that side of the house and it stays damp for some time as well
