Hi guys,

Looking for a spec for a general desktop - Will be used for general browsing, light gaming and word processing. Some programming software will also be used on the computer. Only the base unit is required, no operating system needed or any other peripherals (have an existing monitor, keyboard and mouse).

Would like a long lasting build really, going for longevity over performance. Can stretch over £400 if needed but with a build like this wouldn't think it was necessary. Would like an SSD if possible just for the faster boot times.

Thanks in advance.

i have the same board, but with a 4160 and think its great, the 4170 is on sale and slightly faster.. i thought about the gtx 750 as again i have one, but mine was pre-built and cost more(granted had windows, but weaker psu and different case) and if i had the choice id choose better, gaming or not..

ive basically created a better setup for over £100 less than mine cost apart from windows as mine came with 8.1 and a single 8gb stick and a tosh 1TB  ha.

with an ssd over 1TB

Thanks for that, very informative. Is there much scope for upgrades in the future if need be?

Also, do Overclockers build it for you for a price if you want? How much would it cost? Won't have time to build it myself unfortunately so sort of need it out of the box.

Kind regards

never had a system or anything from OC if im honest, while i have seen things, i tend to get them locally for simple fact of no waiting lol not to mention if its pricey id rather pick it up :D..

however i think i read in another topic about a £30 charge, but i think for a pre-built system like the last one i listed it comes included, but not sure..

as far as the 'future upgrades' go, the board supports

4th gen i5's and i7's,
16gb total ram.

i dont know what the psu in the pre-built is, but 430w-450w is good if its a good brand, but dont expect to get a 970/980/780 and similar or the AMD equivalent without upping the psu whether you went i5 or not.
