Spec me a general use lens

Hi guys

Just bought a 5d and am now looking and switching my other lenses out

I'll be losing my 10-22mm canon but able to keep the 40mm and 50mm that I have :)

I'm looking between the 17-40L or the popular 105l lens

Any thoughts or other ideas??

I have a wedding on Monday which I'd like to get snap happy at and then spa f1 next weekend where I'm sure it will get a lot of use :)

I'm surprised that the 24-105mm doesn't get more support here. I've read a lot of great things which was why it was my no1 choice when starting the thresd
 
Thanks for all the info here. This is my first step into the bold world of FF a 24-105mm will set me back best part of £500 new with a filter, the 24/70 m2 is around £1400 new! A massive difference that I will sure see, and will upgrade, but for now I'm going to see how I get on with the primes and the 24-105.

The 50mm I have is only the 1.8 not 1.4 I'll look at upping that soon ;)
 
I didn't realise the 85mm could be got at that price. Seems a steal..... Are they cheaper in the USA? Going there in September ;)

The 85mm f/1.8 is an absolute steal, as sharp as the 85L and faster auto focus. f/1.8 gives extremely narrow DoF on FF and the Bokeh is very good (some people actually say the 1.8 has better bokeh quality than the 1.2L lens which can be harsh)

I'll look at that for sure then in the next few weeks, what are your thoughts on the 70-300 canon lens, I'm borrowing one for the f1 buts it's never long enough, although I have never tried it FF

How do extenders work? Useful or useless
