Hey,

Sorry if there has been a million of these posts, but would rather a direct answer as opposed to other people queries!

So I'm currently running;
i7 920 @ 4ghz
4870x2
6gb ram
win 7

The 4870x2 is just too old now, and its not supported in drivers anymore.
So I have about £300 to spend, what's the best? I'm looking at GTX 770 or an R9 290. Which would yo go for, or even if there's a different model you'd recommend?

Cheers guys!

The Sapphire 290 for £310 is the best performance you'll get for your money - even without Mantle.

Didn't know about this Mantel chap coming onto the scene, will have to look at that.
I guess Nvidia will have an answer to it probably.

So I'm looking at the cards and the finance options (poor yay) and that only kicks in at £333 so lets up the price range to £350.
Where does that put us?

Another vote for the 290. Coming from your 4870x2, the 290 will be quieter(!) and Mantle can only improve things for BF4. £350 won't get you anything from the Green camp that will compare, you'll need another £50 to think about the 780 unless you go MM

I am running pretty much the exact same spec, and had this decision to make a few days ago. I went with the 290X (so in your case it would be the 290). What made me go with it was the potential for Mantle, and the fact that I'm running my 290X under watercooling so heat/noise aren't an issue for me.

If they will be an issue for you then maybe the 770 would be a better option. My advice, is if you can wait a few more days, the AMD conference is going to be showing games running using Mantle I think on the 14th/15th (I saw in another thread), I would say wait till you see that then make a decision. But yeah, it's not an easy choice...

Ok, 290 it is then!

Which would you say is the best Company to go for?

I've been out of the component game for too long haha!

Sapphire at £310. Bargain.

The HIS is also at £310, but I think Sapphire are one of the companies with whom removing the cooler doesn't void the warranty.
