Shuttle SG31G2

Budget: £50-100
Noise: quiet as poss
Usage: films, surfing, a little gaming etc etc
Size: I'd prefer if it only took up one slot so i still have the usage of the only PCI slot next to it

I was originally looking at the 9600GT and 9800GT silent as well as the 4670 silent but the performace is really restricted due to them being fanless

I was going to say a 2nd hand 8800GTX but you'd never fit it in there. What is that a fag box ?

i measured an 8800gtx i got here and its about 6cm too long lol

the prob i got is the width of the card, most seem to fit the hight and length

also the PSU is also only 250w

with only 250w on the PSU, might have to go for something like the 4670. I dont have much experience with passively cooled modern cards, but I have a 4670 myself and it runs very nicely if you're not going for top end gaming.

EDIT: just checked my 4670 box and it recommends 400W, but it's a fan-cooled solution and they probably overestimate. The cards themselves draw around 75W (IIRC), so you might have to think about a different PSU depending on your current draw. Should also note that 4670s dont have a PCI-E power connector so you wont have the freedom of choosing your rail.

EDIT 2: or go for an even lower-powered card :D

the 250w psu doesnt really power much as everything else is onboard but the e6600 draws about 150w under full load which means i only have a max of 100w left. i hope that 250w is sustainable and not burst

I've decided to swap the psu for a 300w and use the current one in my other shuttle which the psu is currently ticking.

Been doing some research and apparantly this 9800 GT that ocuk sells in a similar spec pc to my shuttle only draws 140-210w and using this power supply calculator says i only need a 220w psu. When i check the manufacturers websites they state a 400w minimum is required

Got a 9800 GT Eco in the end as ocuk replaced the standard 9800 GT with this eco version and put it in this week only with £14 off :)

My shuttle now draws 115w idle and only 160w playing crysis
