Hey all,

With the missus moved to a wired rig and whatnot I feel my router needs upgrading to adjust to our needs and the impending NAS implementation.

Requirements:

Work with my Sky broadband
all Gigabit connections
300mb wireless would be a bonus.

I just don't wanna buy the wrong one :P

If you main requirement is Gigabit you could just add a Gigabit switch to the existing router. It should be a lot cheaper than buying a Gigabit capable router.

Just been talking to Deepak at sky.

Apparently I can only use Sky Equipment with my sky BB... Surely not, surely I can just configure it the same?

I've seen switches for about £20, there are routers out there on rainforest for about £35.

I'd rather just have the one piece of equipment.

You can use your own equipment but they won't support it. If you want to install it you're on your own, and you'll need to extract the username and password from the existing router (Google it).

It's probably against their T&Cs as well.

Is not hard getting the username and password from your sky router, basically your router needs login for adsl connection, sky router come preconfigurate with username and password from sky and sky won't tell you over the telephone what they are and also will fob you over phone that any other routers won't work, but using this tool from link will show you what the username and password is so you can plug you own router and configurat, I know it works because I done it my self, also if you using the black d-link from sky I found it it has poor wireless signal. Hope this help
