Thats not Acronis true image as i have had 2 backups of hard drives with this software and neither of them have worked when needed to recover said drives, so now i am now looking for a good backup software that will backup a whole drive and compress it into a backup archive file.

Thanks lads

Backup failure with Acronis? What happened, exactly?

I use 'dd' for the OS partition, but it's not exactly what you would call user friendly. :p

I like it because it views the partition or drive as a regular file.

This means that I can generate 'before and after' MD5 hashes and be 100% certain that it was successful. MD5 hashes never lie.

Thanks for the reply but to be hounest im looking for a user friendly windows based program.

The issue i had with acronis is that I did a full backup of the main boot drive then formated to beta test windows 7, when i recovered the install back it would not boot into vista (i tried many fixes in windows recovery console), then i did a full fresh reinstall of the system which i then backed up with true image only to find out after recovering this backup i had the exact same issue with vista 64 not booting.

I really want a no fuss stable backup software that i can rely on to actually recover fully.

what version of acronis was it?

I assume the latest version of it's type.. ie 11.8101 or 2009 latest..

only had one issue with aconris ever, reported it to their support (live chat) and they gave me a newer testing version, then rolled out that fix into the v11.8101

awesome support.

Yes, what went wrong?
Did it as per here? (Not trying to be patronising, would like to know what to point out in the guide if certain setups need an additional step or something to make it work for them)
