Right guys,

I was a huge fan of the Age of empires series especially AOE II, I'm after a similar in terms of game play strategy game. Been a while since I've played strategy games. I'm sure there a few recommendations out there.

Cheers

Matt

Definitely check out World in Conflict. It has very good storyline and the actual game mechanics are fast and action packed.
Very underrated game.

And Starcraft 2 is the obvious choice.

Another vote for SC2, Check out youtube, people like day9 or Huskystarcraft and see what its all about from the pros, it got me into it and i'm hooked!

Hi Id recommend SC2 myself - but I have a question for you.

Im a fan of Ancient era strategy games, but unfortunately I missed the boat on the AoE games.

Which one is the best of the AoE series to pick up and play now do you think?

Cheers for the responses guys, SC 2 sounds like a popular choice.

Chrimefighter - AEO 2 is my favorite, but that is only because I grew up around the time AOE2 was popular. Quite simple to play yet extremely addictive.

Supreme Commander & it's expansion pack Forged Alliance

think you can get both for £5 or so. BUT Supreme commander 2 was a massive let down because it was "dumbed down" for consoles :(

I disagree with Supreme Commander 2 big a massive let down. Actually as someone who played Age of Empires 3 and it's expansion packs a lot for 2-3 years, Supreme Commander 2 is a lot more like Age of Empires 3 than Supreme Commander Forged Alliance.

If you like Age of Empires 3, you will more than likely like Supreme Commander 2.

SC2 was so unstable on my machine.

Had a free trial but it crashed to much so didnt get into it enough.

You should look at Rome:Total War.
Its ancient now, but ive just installed it again and i love it!

Command and Conquer is pretty decent, i suggest Red Alert 2 being the best, the final one before EA took over.

I think Age of Mythology is the best to pick up, great fun and it still looks good. I can't say I really liked AoE3 that much.

Back to the OP, Dawn of War 1 is a good option if you wan't something slower paced than SC2.

Heh, I prefer to move along at a glacier pace in these games.

Okay ill recommend you to Close Combat 3-4. Sure its a little old school now and the gfx are 2d not 3d affair. but can be played quite slowly, with unit progression in terms of experience and morale that goes up and down plus like 3-4 map scenarios where your objective is to your your opponent back and back, and wipe them off all of the maps!

Great games can be played on netbooks these days i would have thought too...

has great featurews like genuine LOS, tanks that die, or become incapacitated in 1 shot..

anti tank sniper rifles (to slow down thoe pesky Panzer II's and flamingos, LOL) if only MS would remake with a better newer game engine;/
