Hi people,

Im looking to upgrade my graphics card this Christmas and im going to take the plunge and buy either tonight or Wednesday!!!

Im coming from 2x 7300gt (ddr3). With 2gig ram and a X2 4800 @ 2.8 - and a Seasonic 500w supply.

Now i understand its going to be a huge leap from my trusty pocket rocket 7300's but im looking for a single card costing upto £250 (ish)

So far in my shortlist i have:

OcUK GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GT Golden Sample 1024MB GDDR3
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB GDDR3
BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 512MB GDDR3
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3

Please give me your feelings on the above, im using a 20'' samsung and i play Crysis, C&C & C.O.D4 - help, help, help.

As your probably gaming at 1680x1050 the bog standard 512mb GT would be fine and save you £50 + less strain on PSU.
GTX has more ram and is the better gpu but unless gaming at 1900etc possibly overkill.
Have the GT myself running a 20" Samsung - no complaints:)

Core2Duo is great - but at the moment i cannot afford new ram, chip etc. I think an X2 @ 2.8 is still pretty competitive, so that leads me into the original question???

The GTX seems to cause a lot of heat issues and uses loads of juice ?
The GTS uses the new architecture, but is it any better in real world terms? Am i going to see a differance for the extra £30 ish quid?

The plan is to keep the GPU until next year when quad cpu, 8gig ram and SLi are common place....:p

Possibly sooner than we think, i reckon...

Which one guys. Which one ?

X1950 PRO
2Gb RAM

to :

E2180
same GFX
2Gb DDR2 6400

£130

ive just now gone and bought a 8800 GT, but a HD 3850 would have done for £110
thats £240 @ 3200 MHz

Hey Hotdog, ShiWarrior has a point, its all well and good lashing out big buck on a GPU to enhance your gaming experience but without the right 'balance' of components you would be almost throwing money away.

The A64 is a nice platform, I still have a few machines but they really don't compare with a nice overclocked Core2 Duo when it comes to gaming.

Two options for you really
  1. Spend as little as possible and just pick up a 256MB/512MB HD3850
  2. Buy a new CPU, Mobo, DDR2 and 256MB/512MB HD3850

Then sell your A64 X2, socket 939 mobo, 2GBDDR and 2x 7300GT's. I'd be suprised if that whole new rebuild cost you much after your done! :cool:
 
Ive just typed in some of my components into the A'Bay and people are paying over £100 for a X2 4800 ! I also have a DFI expert board which is running at £30+

I never new my PC was worth so much !

Back to the graphics , whats the advantage of getting an ATI card ? I thought nVidia was the king at the mo? :confused:
