So, having aprox £200 to £250 for a new graphics card, I'm unsure what to buy. I have a Biostar TPower I45 board, and no thoughts of changing to later tech yet.

I want similar performance in DX11 to what my 4890 does now in DX9/10.

Don't really care which brand or anything, just best for ~£200 - £250 please.

or 470, best performance, best overclocking potential, worst noise, worst heat and worst power usage though

If you're going for watercooling eventually, I would suggest a GTX470. Although they do not overclock as highly as their ATI counterparts (in a purely numbers and percentage basis) you get more tangible results from those overclocks and when under water they go faster than **** out of someone on X-lax.

If not watercooling though, I would suggest a 5850. They clock like absolute beasts, and can reach 1000 core with a modicum of effort

Looks like it will be a 5850 then, probably Asus or MSI for the volt-tweak, and the fact i can get 2 if i get money down the line, and pop them both under water.

In that price bracket it really is a toss up between the 470 and the 5850. They both offer the same performance/pound ratio. Go with what manufacturer you prefer or if it were me i'd save £25 more and get the £275 5870 :)
If your going to water cool at a later date make sure the card you chose is a reference design board or has a block specific for it.

I went with a 470 for £235 while it was still on offer. It's back up to £245 or 250, not sure if it's worth the extra over the 5850 at that price. Haven't got the card yet but I'm expecting a nice improvement over my 2900xt :)
