Just too many to choose from, I was looking at the 7950 series last time I had a nosey but things change quick around here!

System is

Asus M5A99X PRO R2.0 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
AMD FX6300
Corsair H80 cpu cooler
16GB DDR3 1600
Antec High current gamer 620w
120GB SSD
1TB HDD

Budget £250 approx

I'm not certain, but I would think a 7950 would be held back somewhat by your cpu, but as I say, I might be incorrect there. So, if that's the case, maybe something like a 270x would do nicely (well within budget, too)? :)

What card do you currently use?

Currently using a sapphire 7750 just to get it running while I saved up.

I do seem to be between the 270 280 price range hence I thought I'd ask high end 270 or mid 280

Your cpu is fine for gaming especially now a lot new titles are optimised for multi threading. For the sort of money your looking to spend I would get the AMD 280X or the cheaper option being an Nvidia gtx760 (quote a bit better then 270x you were looking at).
