A friend of mine is looking for a new graphics card. His PC has 1 PCIe x16 slot however due to not building it himself, he only has a 250w power supply of and no extra power connections are available, therefore the graphics card can't require external power.

So, in a nutshell - I am looking for the best NVIDIA graphics card (>=512mb) that doesn't require external power for around £60.

Help? :p

I bought and installed a GT 240 for someone recently. It cost £61 from here for the 512mb version and used no extra power connectors. The PC has a 280W non-brand PSU and it works fine. The card itself is quite impressive for the price. It plays most things quite well and scored 7765 on 3D mark 06.

Wont find a better Nvidia card than that without external power connectors

Would the 1GB one require external power?

are you looking for this so you can play games, or so you can have two monitors?

if you want to play games, you won't manage it with that power supply.

if you want screens, get the oldest card you can find

The GT 240 isn't as bad as you think. It depends what your expectations are. I started up batman AA and at 1680x1050 it auto-detected maximum settings but without AA. It ran pretty good like that. Not 60fps or anything but it was more than playable. So he can play games with that PSU
