Right I curently have a c2d 8500 @ 4ghz and 4gigs of ram but am running an old 3870x2, even though I am only using a 19inch 1280x1024 monitor it's simply not powerful enough to run the latest games in all their glory.

My needs are a dx11 card which will run modern games such as metro 2033 at or near max on a res of around 1280x1024 for a cost of near ish to £250.

Your 3870x2 should be fine for that res for most modern games that have console (X-Box 360, PS3) ports.

Metro 2033 is a special nut like the original Crysis that bring graphic cards to their knees, because they are pure PC games with crazy quality details since there's no console port to consider, which usually hold the graphic details/quality back.

Unless you consider it is worth while to upgrade for the sake for these two games only, your 3870x2 should still do you fine.

For £250 I think everyone will recommend 5850, but specifically for Metro 2033, GTX470 (around £270) would be deliver higher frame rate, simply because the game uses heavier amount of tessellation. With that said the 5850 should be fine for 1280x1024.

All in all, I just don't think it's worth spending that much money for the sake of one or two games...

Thanks for the options, it's been a while since I have brought a card as you can tell and things have moved on quite a lot since then, I might look at the gtx470 as I may get a larger monitor when this one dies (did have a dual screen setup but one has already died) probably no larger than a 22inch screen.

You can pick up a nice decent brand 22" 1920x1080 LCD monitor between £110~£150 thesedays. I think you should seriously considering getting a new monitor, and pick up a new graphic card at the same time.

I agree with the new monitor advice....

Your current resolution is very small.... infact I would update your monitor first before getting a new gpu.

I have a 3870x2 and I can play most games with decent settings at 1980x1200....

BFBC2 is set to medium... but it still looks fairly good.

Saying that Im going to upgrade my gpu as well....
