Spec me a graphics card ... pretty please ...

Hi guys,

I might be selling my 8800GTS 512Mb card to my friend and looking for a new one for myself. I'm a bit out of touch so any advice would be appreciated. I run mainly fps on a 24" Dell at 1920*1200, so I'd need something pretty meaty to run all the bells and whistles. The 8800 did a pretty good job, but I got to the ice level in Crysis and it turned from an fps to a turn based shooter :/

Any thoughts ... price range £150 to £200 ...

For that price a 4890 would probably be your best bet.

It will be quieter, more powerful and stay cooler with Vapor X.

Little doubt that it will be more expensive though.

I've sent them a web note to find out, will update if/when I get a response.

Prices, most people are guesing around 220-250.

How does the 4870 hold up at 1920x1200 resolution?

Okay ... I've got two options:

1 - go for the cheaper 4870 at £145 now, keep it for a year then upgrade to a nice DX11 card next year when it'll be established. Will the 4870 be good enough for a year though whn running at 1920*1200?

2 - go for the 4890 but keep it for a couple of years ...

Waiting until July for the new range isn't an option as my friend needs my card now, and I know that the July date will inevitably slip ... I've played the waiting game before ...

4870 will run most games at 1920*1200 only exceptions being crysis (i get 17-20 fps full AA and everything maxed)

and also Empire Total War which i dont know if its just buggy.

rest of games like LEFT4DEAD run at like 100-120 fps with all maxed
