spec me a graphics card..

I haven't played video games for several years but then I discovered rFactor yesterday, and it's unbelievably good (I race single seaters in real life), so much so that I'm probably going to get a logitech G25 to complement it.

However, graphics first.. I've got a dell 2407WFP (so that's 1920x1200) but the computer I've currently got only has a x1300 pro, so it struggles a little. The rest of the computer is pretty quick, C2D2.4Ghz (E6600), 2Gb ram.

What PCI-E graphics card should I be looking to get? I'm after something in the region of £100 (but willing to spend a little more), and also something that's pretty quiet.

All help would be much appreciated.

At that res I'd want more than 256 MiB RAM so I'll recommend the HIS X1950 Pro 512 MiB IceQ. The XT would be faster but is too far overbudget.

sapphire pro 512mb that will sort you out a treat

i have a 256mb version and plays all my games smoothly at pretty much full details. you will see a massive performance increase over the x1300

and i agree 512mb a must with yoru resolution

It looks like I'll got for a X1950 with 512Mb, but, is it worth waiting for the Powercolor X1950 XT 512Mb to come back in stock? It's not much more than the X1950 Pros (~£40 more) but will the performance be that much better?

i would say performance would be about 10%-15% faster is that worth the extra £40 is up to you.

perosnally o would get the x1950pro 512. and save the cashe for other upgrades at later time

edit; just noticed your quiet comment lol lots ay the sapphire x1950pro i recomened isnt quiet how ever i dont hear it much in my pc. guess it depnds on what you used to

I would save and get an 8800gts, really would be worthwhile, now your back in the game (See what i did?)

yea, if you are willing to go second hand you could get a 320mb version for under 160 easily

I doubt the Powercolor x1950 will come back into stock as those cards are out of production now that the new 2900's are here.

Ok, I'm very much considering getting the 8800gts if I find one at a decent price.

Are there any cards which are signifacantly quieter than others? At the moment, my PC is pretty silent so I don't want to shove a jet-engine sounding card into it, even if might make everything look pretty

from what i've heard then stay away from the 2900's
