As title, will be used mainly for photoshop/illustrator.

Have never used a graphics tablet before so any advice would be awesome :)

Cheers

I used to use a Wacom Intuos A6 tablet and found them pretty good, but they are not a patch on the Cintiq 21ux i now have(which are crazy expensive, but are superb, check out my website for some of my drawings). The Wacom intuos3 a6 start at around 180 quid. I dont know what the cheaper brands are like though sorry.

My girlfriend, who is a 2D animator has Wacom Bamboo, its pretty good for the price.
My housemate, who is an illistrator has a Cintiq 12", which is still crazy expensive like the 21".

From living with an animator and an illistrator I can tell you the only tablets worth their weight are Wacoms.

get a cheap one to start with. No offence but things like these, 200quid + are usually aimed at people who use them a lot and know how to use them.

my wacom cost like 40quid (only small, but does everything i need it to in first few years at uni), compared to my mates a4 wacom which he's used twice, and he cant draw for his life.

Best one for 100 notes has to be the Wacom Bamboo Fun A6.

Does not have tilt, and I do not believe you can buy different pens for it (such as airbrush).

However for the money it will be suitable for what you do. Once you get used to it and hopefully make a bit of cash from chopping and illustrator you can always upgrade.

For a first buy it is ideal. (Graphics tablets take a bit of getting used to, but once you have mastered it you will wonder how you lived without it....)

If you can double your budget (*ahem*) then I recommend the Intuos3...

But if you cannot, go for the bamboo. (just make sure you get the recent model as it doesn't have the nasty overlay like the old model...)

Cheers for the replys guys.

The reason i hesitate to spend a lot is im unsure of how much i will use it to begin with and space is a consideration too.

This seems to be the front runner just now. :p

No seriously... Read the reviews of that product...

Then the bamboo

Or, why not go for the smaller model;
