;) Now I've got your attention, I need to build a bit of a wierd system...

It's going to be a bit of a jack of all trades - master of none type jobbie.

Essentially it's going to be in a living room hooked up to a TV by either VGA or pref HDMI. As it's in the living room it needs to be silent, preferably completely passive (no fans) or as near to as possible. It needs to be small, preferably mini-itx or a small case.

Now it will be left on 24/7 also to be used as a bit of a server/backup. With this it needs to be able to sleep, but wake up with USB and LAN activity, and for the backup will need 500GB+ of space (pref 1TB). I need a wireless keyboard/mouse with a decent range (3-4 meters to the sofa) that can be used to wake it up from sleep (maybe even a remote)?

It won't be used that often for gaming, but might be occasionally, so it needs to be able to run modern games with reasonable settings.

Budget is £400-450 or pref lower (already have both a spare copy of Vista or XP).

I'm finding this a hard task so any help, ideas, sugestions will be much apreciated :D

hey shadow, either of the 2 builds in section 3 of this post would meet your needs, the ITX system has one PCI-E x16 slot so if you needed more powerful gfx for gaming you can drop one in, but its quite limited expansion wise which may make the mATX option better for you, obviously you can tailor either of these to meet your exact needs but they give you a starting place
Hope it helps
