Normally, I'm a HDMI is a HDMI kinda guy, but this is different.

I was happily using a 10m HDMI cable from my pc to my living room TV for when I wanna watch something off the PC on the TV, or when I wanna kick back and play a game on the big screen with a controller without resorting to console peasant nonsense.

Unfortunately, since I upgraded from a 7950 to a 290x, I get flickers of white pixels all the time, kinda like snow. Its usable, but rather annoying.

I presume its because the HDMI output of my 290x isn't as powerful as it was on the 7950, and a 10m HDMI cable is kind of pushing it anyway.

Could someone explain what I need to be looking at in a HDMI cable to get lower signal drop? I have no idea, as like I said, I always just got cheap ones (though I still want to get a relatively cheap one)

Thanks

Expensive cables are a lie. Buy anything that suits.

Digital signals are cleaned up post-cable, the quality of it is marketing only.

HDMI is digital, so as long as it meets the minimal requirements, it'll work. I normally suggest staying below 20M. If you experience problems, you could try an active booster.

Just to add, I bought a 10M HDMI lead when we moved into our new house, was going to run it under the floor to the other side of the room. In the end, we've got the the TV on the same wall as the equipment, so have 9.5M coiled up on the floor. Was bought from eBay and have had no troubles what so ever.

You could look at the the HDMI over ethernet, but this is costly, and not really needed for your requirements.

I can confirm to you as some have above ! All HDMI leads will give you the same picture quality and sound, I've never seen any difference from £5.00 lead to £50 lead. But if you must have a good lead then go for something like QED.

I don't particularly want a expensive one, I just want the signal to reach my TV without problems :(

Search the rainforest for KabelDirekt HDMI, I have 5 of them going around the house and they are all 15m long and never had an issue, the version i'm using is "Top"
