A little while ago, I looked at the best way of getting all my music into the car. USB compatible head units were around but involved clunky navigation through folders so I settled on an 80gb ipod with an Alpine head unit (X001 in the Mondeo and 9881 in the Honda) because:

- It allowed proper indexing of music, selection of artist/album etc from the ID3 tags. No arsing around with folder structures
- I could store my entire music collection on the ipod (25gb ATM)
- I could take it out the car and use it with headphones, unlike a USB HDD

However, that's all being sold by some theiving scrote so it needs replacing. I'd like to achieve all of the above again but am wondering if there's a better way of doing it.

So, what head unit and device combination would allow me to do all of the above? I was going to go and buy a new ipod classic (£200 ish) and a similar head unit but I'm aware the HDD ipods are being phased out and I'm not keen on the touch.

Also could consider doing something with my mobile (motorola milestone) and bluetooth, but again never really looked into any of that. Any tips?

Wouldnt this be best left for a while until you know whether your insurers are going to write the car off or not? :)

Have cancelled the claim - the wiring isnt as badly damaged as it looked before and the dent/scratch in the door can just be touched up. It was bought as a throwaway car for a year or 2 anyway.

Have just claimed for the window (usual windscreen excess) and will replace my devices at my own cost and I wont be leaving them in the car any more :)

No ideas? I certainly can't find anything, closest was a Sony Walkman mp3 player and Sony HU combo but can't really see the benefit
