The Mondeo (pre facelift) currently has a Ford 6006e CD changer head unit fitted, I'd like to be able to listen to mp3s via aux in which it can't do.

Reqs:

<£250
Single DIN
USB
SD Card
No CD slot req
Sleek with minimal buttons
Bluetooth
Compatible with steering controls (patch lead req, so big name brands only)

I've bought a fitting kit comprising of fascia adapter, aerial adapter, wiring loom, etc.
I'll also need the steering controls harness and patch lead like this:

I've spotted the Pioneer MVH-8300BT that's within budget, any others to consider? Don't seem to be many reviews of head units out there?

Neil.

Anything Alpine or Pioneer should be fine.

Rilot posted about one the other day, think it was out of your budget but might be able to find one second hand?

Sony S300BTX
Alpine IDA-X305S (would need BT add on)
Kenwood KIV-700 (would need BT add on)
Pioneer 8400BT (has cd slot but is a lush unit)

I don't rate sony, kenwood, mutant, clarior et all. At the price, or most prices.

I was always an Alpine fanboy, but my most recent Pioneer HU has absolutely blown me away. It improved the performance of the, frankly dire, VW speakers so much i haven't swapped them yet.

Alpine or Pioneer for me. The HU you've specced looks very good, but its single din??

BT on my alpine is totally hassle free, but I do wish it had text functionality.

Ant

I purchased a Sony MEX-BT3800U, they are 170 now but i paid 100, i got the unit simply for its hands free but i cant fault it on its A2DP streaming form my Samsung omnia 7 or HTC Desire HD.

i cant speak for its music quality on an amped system but on my vauxhall stock crap it was a vast vast improvement!

Alpine BT can be buggy with iPhones, normally it'll connect 9 times out of 10 but sods law says the 1 time it doesn't you will need it.
I've had no problem with Pioneer BT.
7300BT is last years model and is now discontinued and like said it does lack A2DP and has the front mounted USB.

I went with the Pioneer DEH-8400BT in the end. It's a CD unit but the reasons I went for it are that is seemed to be better than any of the mechless players for what I need.

6 x RCA outputs
A2DP bluetooth
2 x USB inputs on the back for tidy cabling

And this was the big one:

iPhone app mode. Allows the use of the iPhone music app for track selection etc but still allows the use of the steering controls for skipping tracks etc. This feature is awesome as I have my iPhone mounted on my dash and I would far rather use Apple's music interface than the one in some headunit.

Other headunits lock out the iPhone's music player when connected meaning you are FORCED to use the HU to select tracks.

Very very happy with it.
