Well three or so years down the line after buying my original Xbox and the soldering on the headset decided to come apart, and the wires and too fidly for me to be bothered stripping them and fixing it (and i was looking for an excuse to buy a better one anyway) so i've decided to just replace it. Any suggestions? Cheap as possible really but i want something that will last, and having the ability to use it with a PC would be an advantage.

I've had my eye on this, looks comfortable enough (bearing in mind i sometimes wear glasses) but it was designed for the original Xbox so i think i would miss the talk on-off switch and the volume dial... is there anything similar with those for around the same price? I also found this but i have on idea how it compares and it still doesn't have those features.

Any suggestions? What do you all use? Thanks :)

Turtle Beach X11. Also works with PC.

Currently priced at £39.99. Excellent choice of headset for a budget.

I have them and for a budget of £40 they are excellent value for money!

I have the X31s they are great quality had them over 6 months now still work fine. I had to get some rechargeable AAA's for them because they're wireless.

But the X11s are basically the X31s but aren't wireless.

X11s are greatly priced.

However for use with a PC you will be able to hear but not use voice chat as mic jacks on PC's are 3.5mm jacks and the audio cable is 2.5mm on the xbox controller and X11 talkback cable.
Theoretically you could use a 2.5mm female to 3.5mm male adapter but I can't confirm this will work.

The Datel Headset Adapter adds volume control plus mic mute to Xbox one headsets and other headsets with 2.5mm jacks.

Hmm, nice but a little expensive. Do you reckon i could just wire a 2.5mm jack socket onto the connector that came with the original headset?

I got mine for under a fiver delivered, but you can still get them for under £7.

The MS headset wire can be a bit of an arse to prepare for soldering when its the fine stranded type coated in coloured lacquer, but it should be possible.

This and if your feeling flush further down the line get an astro mixamp and they will sound even better and work with everything.

This might be a silly question, but ive had my xbox 360 for going on 3 years and hardly use the thing so im not upto date with all the latest gadgets for it

can you buy headsets for the console that transmit the game sounds aswell as voice ? the one that comes with it only transmits chat doesnt it ?

ideally id like to have the tv silent and have every thing come through the head set,are there any that do that ?

Yes. As above the Turtle Beach X11's would do that.

They are priced nice and cheap so you can try them out too. And as said above you can always add a mixamp/Turtle Beach DSS adaptor later and enjoy 'virtual surround sound'.

I have a Turtle Beach X11, personally I found them tinny and the constantly hissed. But I do tend to play my games relatively quietly so the background hiss never really went.

Haha, i knew what i was letting myself in for when i posted that... i just placed the order anyhow, thanks for all the advice that i ignored for the most part :p

Okay, bit of a problem here. Decided to get my next 12 months of Gold through Amazon, as it's a fair bit cheaper. My current one lasts until the 26th, but it's set to auto-renew. How do i turn this off short of an angry phone call to somewhere in India?

The xbox.com website way doesn't work if you're in the UK... i've read something about using a redeem code to turn it off - does that work with 48 hour trials? If so, does it cancel the remainder of your membership?

Is there no other way? I'd rather not since MS Support is aways a PITA.

If i used the code from the 12 month card would that be added on to my current membership?

X31s have an effects button on the side.

Off = normal sound
1 beep = Bass Booster
2 beep = Virtual Surround
3 beep = Bass booster + virtual surround.

Pretty cool feature, but they are more expensive, but wireless :D!
