Hi all,

I am currently looking around the market for a new headset, and wondered if anyone was able to push me in the right direction...

I am currently using a pair of Sennheiser HD 280 pro headphones for my PC and for music (they were originally bought for when I played the drums). The sound quality is immense, but they get hot over hours of use, and I would like a mic.

So I am looking to move onto a headset that includes a mic. After many hours of research, I’ve found that this market is a bit of a minefield! I originally wanted wireless only, but I have since learnt the sound quality is often lacking.

The pair I was looking at was the SteelSeries Arctis 7 or Pro Wireless. The reviews are all over the place - some saying they’re fantastic, others saying otherwise... The SteelSeries Reddit is overflowing with complaints and bad reviews... I think the look of them is awesome - almost as if I could use them outside without feeling like a dork. :p I saw that the Pro Wireless are available around £150-200 used or refurbed.

So I moved onto wired, which is equally as muddled, as there are so many to choose from! I have been quite keen on the Sennheiser Game One. The sound is meant to be very good (brand I could trust), and I have read that open style headphones are better for gaming, but I’m not as keen on the look of them, as I was with the Arctis. I’ve also heard it feels a little plastic and cheap...

My main uses will be: Gaming, YouTube and Spotify
Budget: Up to £200 (would go a tad more if required)

I have taken careful consideration, but I have decided I do not want to go down the separate headphones/microphone setup, or a boom mic. I am after a headset that sounds good and I can speak clearly on.

Any advice would be grand :)

Thanks!

Speaking from experience the Steelseries 7 wireless (new version not pre-2019) is shocking. The software is terrible and I ended up using the Razer Surround Software. The good thing about them is once you have the software sorted and set them up how you like them the sound is pretty good it just takes a lot of time tinkering to get there.. Zero interference when they were on and no sound being played they were silent unlike some wireless ones I've used. They are also very comfy but I found the sound was not loud enough and it lacked decent bass.

I've used a lot of wireless headsets and I tend to move around them till I find one I liked which is why I've currently got the Razer Nari Ultimate great sound and "marmite" Haptic Feedback although I love it. Just watched Infinity War and Endgame with them on which I had not before and after 2hrs I felt like I had been battered by Thanos myself.

Although I've started to get itchy ears and just picked up the wired Hyperx Cloud II's as when the Nari battery runs out they dont run off power from dead like some other wireless ones. Corsair avoid avoid avoid. Plantronics are pretty good value especially if you like lots of bass. Also tried the £250 Astro A50's but I was unimpressed with why they cost so much when the sound was so average.

A lot of people go for Sennheiser but they seem to be too expensive for me is there none in their range that fits your bill ?

Closed design and non breathing ear pads insulate very effectively also heat in besides keeping noise out.
If you want least ear warming for like whole day usage, open design and fabric/velour pads are the best.
Of couse pretty much leaking environment's noise completely through, if you don't have quiet environment.

There are just very few such headsets.
No doubt it has lot to do with open design being weaker for lowest "rumbling" bass, which is something ga(y)mer trinket sellers want to have.

Not sure how much velour pads help closed design to avoid ear sweating like in Beyerdynamic MMX300.
Which is DT770 +mic attached for major price extra...
I mean you could get DT770+wireless ModMic for the same price.
Wireless ModMic would be way to avoid extra cable from use of separate mic.

Think you forgot word "nuclear" from before mine...
