I went for the passive nt06-e with the asrock z77e-itx motherboard but the zif socket is so close to the gpu that the cooler will not fit in any direction without blocking the pcie slot.

Idealy I would like silent and it needs to fit under the psu on an sg05, as long as it cools at least as the intel stock it will be ok but improved headroom to OC would be nice.

ERM isnt the nt06-e supposed to be used with a 120mm fan of your choice?

as for silent

my corsair A50

with a

akasa apache 120mm

is extremely quiet, cannot hear it and even when its at high speed it isnt loud.

keeps my i5 2500k 4.5ghz at around 22-25c idle and about 65-70c on load.

thats just my experience though

Its supposed to sit with the PSU fan above it in a suck config in the sugo cases but like i said the cooler covers the PCI-e slot so its a no go unfortunately.

The A50 is too tall i only have 82mm hight clearance to play with sadly

i googled the case to check the max height of the cpu cooler is 192mm?

google image search

i assume the da box 100 is your current case?

ahh my bad i just re read your first post carefully. google some builds regarding the sg05, thats how i get my ideas haha

Ok problem solved, with a little bit of gentle bending the PCIe slot is now missed by a country mile, temps are good too.
The only downside is the nause of getting to the 8 pin power connectors but after a good half hour of messing its all now in the case and running smoothly. will post some pics when i get chance.

As you can see the cooler now misses the GPU by a reasonable margin.

For anyone thinking of using it with the Z77e-itx board in an SG05 i have these observations:

1. no room for a fan on top if you want the PSU in the case.

2. you can remove and invert the black shroud to allow a fan to be placed underneath.

3. even with XMS3 RAM there is not enough clearance for a full size 120mm fan underneath but the 10mm thick scythe one fits.

4. Plug the 2x4/8pin power into the mobo before seating the board in the case

5. don't install it all and do your cable management to then remember it was a test to see if it would fit and you didn't put any TIM on the chip.

BTW the black cable is front panel audio and just reaches as the crow flies.

I'm using an NT-06 in an SG-02 so probably the same metalwork as your SG-05. I went for a not-quite-full size mATX board (GA-Z77M-D3H) as fitting a full-size mATX board is too much like hard work and the NT-06 has to be fitted afterwards. No problems with PCIe slot clearance and temps on an i5 3570 are in the mid-60s when folding so I'm happy.

Same board and case I am looking at.

Wondering if with Samsung Green Ram you'd fit a thicker fan under the NT06? Have you flipped the PSU and is your fan set to blow UP or suck DOWN?
