Hi I would like to improve my pc sound experience, I have a Creative Titanium HD soundcard.

I currently have harmon kardon soundsticks iii speakers which are ok but I would like better sound for genres such as prog rock, prog metal and EDM.

I also game and would like good sound for FPS games mainly.

I also want a turntable but that can come later, but the system must be suitable for connecting to a turntable so I can start collecting vinyl lp's.

I would also prefer to buy new and have seen this system http://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/hi-fi-system-deals/pah011671

Budget <= £150

Thanks :)

Decent amp. Crap speakers.

At £150 you're really scraping the bottom of the barrel; especially if it has to be new. Is there any flexibility in your budget or are you willing to reconsider on decent second-hand stuff?

£20 for speakers is no money. You need to spend a certain amount on the speakers, otherwise there is little point bothering. Minimum you should be considering new, is something like Wharfedale 9.0's for £50 from Richer Sounds, to keep the spend under £150.

If you can stretch to £160, then RS have Tannoy Mercury V1 and Mission MX1 for £80 each.

Apologies that I'm not bringing you an advice on new system, but wanted to ask about your soundsticks - I'm about to buy one.
Why do you want to replace them? What are you looking for in new system? Why these aren't good for those music genres/gaming?

The optimum way to achieve that for anything like your budget is to go s/h. Particularly true for amps, as some of the older units will have reasonable phono stages built in.
I'd suggest focusing on something fairly mainstream as they tend to be more reliable, say an amp from Rotel, or Kenwood (3030r, 3020se).

For speakers, there's a lot of reasonable standmounts that can be had for around the £100 mark. None of them will be mind blowing, but they should easy see of a set of computer speakers. Good makes include Tannoy, Mission, Kef.
