I am currently in the process of purchasing various hiking gear for my photography adventures in the hills.

I need a water and wind proof jacket that can breath and suitable for autumn/winter. Would be part of a 3 layer system.

I've looked at Berghaus, Northface and few others but too many to chose from and see if anyone here has personal views on this.

Budget would be around £150 to £200

You should get a good Gore-Tex jacket for that price. I'm not familiar with what's available in the UK any more, but both the brands you mention are great - I actually used to work for TNF. The "big name" brands will all be good quality and have a similar spec, so just go for the one that fits you the best....try a few on.

My Berghaus Goretex jacket is still going strong at 10 years old. Zip in fleece keeps you very warm. Best going into a shop and trying a few different ones on to see what's comfortable.
