If its going to be used to backup information, I wouldn't go with a single drive. Either 2 identical drives in RAID 1 or go for 3 to give you some better speed in a RAID 5.
In fact its probably cheaper to go for the 3x500GB drives to get you your 1TB then it is to go for 1x1TB.

Just as an example, plus you get the benefit of having more secure data than if you had a single drive.

Ta, but WHS cries with RAID setups, as it has its own software raid implimentation. Maybe should've mentioned that.
Do you have any old PCs lying around? A server doesnt need much. Im going to reuse my old nForce2 iDEQ with an Athlon XP 2100+ and a gig of DDR. So that will keep your budget down.
And yeah, the WHS setup has its own RAID style thing, u just select what folders to duplicate and it automatically sticks them on atleast 2 drives, so definately go for multiple drives over a single big one

WHS will not work with 64-bit computers. Will not back them up, or use the software. You can still access all the files/printers etc. MS was making a connector for 64-bit, but then gave up claiming it will be in the next version. Which is a rip-off tbh. I still wouldnt swop it though.
TBH the connector is pants. Basically a cut down control panel for the server. Its on your lan, just use RDC to controll the server, you get the same control panel that way.
Scheduled backups arent difficult, and theres umpteen billion automated backup tools on the web.
I used the beta for a while, didnt even install the connected on one machine, no point really. Map the network drives, map the my docs folder to the network drive, offline files, and away we go.
But yeah, still doesnt negate the fact its a cop out by MS.

. Just a cop out from them. Even so, if they come up with a new version, i would be tempted by it. Works seamlessly, especially being able to grab your files from anywhere, the easy software raid (Just plug in a drive and add to the pool) and its handy for backing up my laptop.
