Spec me a ipod touch please

Hi i'm putting serious thought into getting an ipod touch but unsure on what one to go for, i'm looking to used it for apps, portable games and a bit of music (say no more than 4Gb at a time)

the one i have my eye on is an 8Gb not sure if it's ver 1 or 2 it's in a catalogue as funds are tight with xmas on the way, so whats the difference the spec says wifi if it helps (sorry ipod neeb here )

anyway hopfully someone can shed some light on this for me
 
Do the prices vary that much from store to store? Maybe just go to the Apple store and get one from there. The 8GB costs £149 there. That way you can be sure it's the newest one.

I'd be cautious with Argos or wherever - they're often selling older Imacs and the like, so they might do the same with the Ipods.
 
I have found the 32gb ipod touch at the rainforrest store for £209, 3rd generation. Why is the 16gb ipod touch 2nd gen £205 everywhere i look? My auntie is after a 16gb one for xmas and i presumed with the 32gb model being £209 the 16 would be around £170
 
The 8gb model is the same as the 2nd gen one, the 16gb model was phased out so any you see is 2nd gen, 3rd gen 32/64gb models have the same processing and graphics power as the 3GS so is the best ones out at the moment. Personally I upgraded from an 8gb 1st gen to a 32gb 3rd gen as it was better value for money compared to the 8gb.
