hi,
my computer has started powering off completely, and now will not boot. this happened before and i replaced the psu which fixed it for a while but now it has started again. i suspect a faulty motherboard (asrock z77e itx) as i have strange issues with the onboard usb headers frying devices.

anyway cant be bothered to faff about troubleshooting so gonna just buy new. whats the best motherboard, cpu and cooler combo for the bitfenix prodigy. i was looking at the gigabyte z97n with a i7 4790k and have no idea about current coolers.

absolute max £500

spec me up please, i will list my other components if needed.

or alternatively if anyone has any suggestions as to what can cause these random instant power drops that would be welcome.

i7 2600k (stock)
Corsair H50
Crucial Ballistix 16gb DDR3 1600
asrock z77e-itx
Asus 760 DirectCU II
Silverstone Strider Essential 700w

I use it for gaming, Premiere, After effects, Lightroom and PS.

I'd go with your original plan. The H50 should fit the z97n. The 2600k you have shouldn't have a problem flogging that on the members market if you have access.

Your GPU is fairly weak compared to what your CPU is capable of.

I would suggest getting a 2nd hand board and a 970 or 980.

Overclock the CPU and enjoy.

If you definitely want to go new, then just get any Z97 board and a 4970k. Most will recommend Gigabyte due to UK RMA base but there all similar.

You can fit a 240mm AIO in your case, OCUK are doing one for £80 at the moment.

If you want the best baord then ASUS is your only choice : https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-026-AS&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=2858

I'm not really fussed on gpu power, I only really play csgo/lol these days. My ideal solution would be to get my hands on a 1155 itx board to replace my current one.

The H50 is pretty old and temps were at 40c in bios, so suggestions on a new cooler perhaps? Thats with a push pull fan setup venting out the top of the Prodigy.

I already have the case so going MATX is not something i am looking at.

that asus combo looks tempting though.

holy moly that looks tight!

whats the life expectancy of the corsair h50, seems like i have had it for yonks. Dont the pumps fail after a while?

They keep going till they fail and they have a 5yr warranty so thats confidence in its life span, you may get lucky and start to hear it before it stops completely.

actually i made a mistake, I moved my old H50 into a media center build i put together a while ago. I have a H75 which is only a year old.

I stripped out everything from my machine to test. So just running cpu, mobo, ram, and ssd boot drive. Kerner-power failure within 15mins of use. Ran a stress test temps were chilling at around 50c.

I'm almost certain its the motherboard now and as there seems to be a distinct lack of socket 1155 ITX boards available it looks like I will have to bite the bullet and get a full new system.

Is that Asus board really necessary over the cheaper gigabyte versions?

Can I just ask if the H75 socket 1155 I currently have will fit the 1150 or will it require another bracket?

Really appreciate the fast responses chaps as I have a video project that needs to get done. ;)
