I don't know if a laminator will do the job but I'm working on a project and can't figure out a better way.

What I want to do is take all my boarding passes (300+), frequent flyer cards, bag tags etc... to make a kind of scrapbook to have for the future. I thought of using glue to stick everything to paper but this is bound to deteriorate to the point where stuff will fall off.

I want to place all of the above onto fairly heavy card and run it through a laminator to keep everything in place and protected. Will your average run-of-the-mill A4 laminator be able to take a heavy piece of A4 card with, for example, a credit card sized piece of plastic on it. I keep seeing certain thicknesses mentioned in the specs but I have no clue what this refers to exactly.

It's going to be a one off job so a fairly cheap option is preferred. Any ideas?

thanks :)

I'm sure I've seen an A3 laminator for less than £30.

No need to use card. Once laminated regular 80gsm paper is stiff enough with 150 micron pouches. For extra stiffness use 250micron pouches. I suspect the thicknesses you're seeing are related to the pouches plus paper.

Feeding extra thick items through a laminator may bend the shafts. This is more likely with a cheap A3 laminator (longer shafts are relatively weaker). However I would expect it to last a few hundred pages before the shafts are completely knackered.

You might want to invest in a plastic comb binder as well.

Sounds good, thanks for that. Are there any particular brands you would recommend or are they all good enough?

I have a Rexel LX50 A3 laminator, got off Ebay several years ago brand new, cheap, brilliant thing, glade I went for a A3 version, surprised how much I've done in A3.

Look for a four roller model, laminates better, A4 size the Swordfish 40185 (white) or 40187 (Blue) same model different colour is very good.

Or the Swordfish 330HD A3 Laminator is another good 4 roller model.

Shop around for the best price especially A3 one.

EDIT: Comb Binding Machine great thing to have, lost count at what I bound for my nephew' school work, & mum's knitting patterns.
Machine will bind up to 120 sheets (80gsm) using 12mm comb, & only cost me around £15 or less to buy.
