£350-£450 budget preferred. She only really browses, does e-mails, nothing too strenuous. Would mind a decent battery life, has to have an ethernet port, wifi also.

All I can really thing of -.-

Thanks :)

Why not go the tablet route? Cheaper, and she can sit on the sofa browsing whilst watching the box without anything on her lap!

Ahh I see an ethernet requirement, netbook?

I've got a 10.1" Asus 'seashell series' netbook, battery life is bloody fantastic, I can get 4.5 hours of movies/tv shows out of it, browsing alone is double that!

oi oi mate, thanks for the quick reply.

I'm not sure how she'd get on with a tablet but may look at the netbook root, thanks bro :) She does have dodgy eyes so screen might be a tad too small.

If you don't mind me asking, how come you require an ethernet port?

I was also going to suggest a tablet, netbooks are another alternative which could fit your requirement as it'll come with one and Wi-Fi. They are a little underpowered by as you say if it's only for browsing / emails and videos should be fine.

Some kind of AMD fusion or Intel Atom set up. What kind of OS are you looking at? My mother wouldn't have a clue with 8 lol.

Because where my wifi is situated you can't pick up a signal anywhere else in the house and also my mums modem isn't a wireless one so she will need a cable when in her room and when downstairs.

Yea' that's a good point actually they all come with bloody windows 8 now, I've never even used it so I have no clue!

My only concern is the screen size but I'll take a look.

Wow they all come with Win 8, that sucks :(

have netbooks got any better? last i checked they were horrifically slow even for browsing, not worth the extra 2 hours of battery you get from them! id just get a laptop which advertises as much battery life as you can find, will have a pentium dual core or a core i3 in it for that price, half the advertised battery life and that's what you'll get in the real world! as she has to plug it in with a ethernet cable anyway i'd argue battery life and portability isn't needed too much anyway

windows 8 is basically windows 7 with a full screen start menu! look it like that and she'll probably get used to it.

Windows 8 is great for laptops, it's speedy and once you get used to it, it works nicely!

For your requirements, a notebook would be better, netbooks are slow and tiny! There's some decent laptops with good battery life for that price range. Acer/Lenovo kinder route?
