Bascically, as the title, I need a laptop which has the following:
  • 2ghz+ Processor
  • 160gb+ hdd
  • WXGA+ Resolution (1440x900)
  • A nice battery life (I know this is a tricky one, but lets say 3hrs with wifi on, medium brightness, general web surfing)
  • Docking Capabilities - I need to be able to whack the machine in a dock of some sorts so that I can use my 22" monitor and handful of peripherals
  • RAM isn't an issue since I've got 2x2GB dimms
So far the favourite is a Dell D620/D630 since I use these at work and they perform well. Since these aren't sold by Dell directly anymore my alternative appears to be the E6400. Unfortunately I'm not all that clued up on other brands so any advice here would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in Advance,
Jason

Not really Vince.
What I do need is for the machine to be portable with a screen that wont be painful to use visual studio on. So far a 14.1" WXGA+ seems to be the best comprimise between portability and usability, but I'm open to suggestions :)

Well I was thinking there are many 15.4" panels that will do 1680x1050, if that resolution suits you open up a lot more choice.

how much are you looking to spend?

edit: if your looking for light and portable take a look at the lenovo t60

the 630 is exactly what i was going to suggest, i put four of them with the full docking solution in for a customer a couple of months back and they are really pleased with them. got a load of the new style replacements in and so far i'm not overly impressed with the design, materials, or the build quality. shame really!
