Hi!
I have been asked to go to America for 2 months as part of my disertation topic for University (Industrial standards in construction with Bamboo). They have some serious timber testing equipment where I am off to.
I digress. I'm a desktop kind of guy, you get way more bang for buck and you can truly customize it. Laptops? Not so much, but I can't really bring my 20kg desktop along the pond, so do need to get a laptop. Also I need a laptop for next year at University as I will be commuting into class everyday, so won't be able to nip back to my flat to get on my PC. I would love the following, but understand that at £800, you can't have everything.
Needs
- Portability. Doesn't have to be 1mm thick and 200 grams, but I'll have to carry this to University and all around America.
Would Like
- Some kind of GPU power. I'm an utter game addict, so would love to be able to play games in my downtime.
- 1080p screen, doesn't matter the physical size, but need me those pixels.
- Would like it to be under £800, or even less. Want to save some cash for Five Guys whilst I am over there.
I've looked at a couple of options, outside of OCUK (as their range isn't great). First is an "Ultrabook", £550 gets me the following:
i5 5200U, 4GB Ram, 250evo SSD and a 13.3inch HD IPS screen but intel HD graphics.
+ Battery Life
+ Portability
- Won't be playing many games!
Other option is £830, a Clevo 13.3 inch, getting:
i7 Quad Core 4710Mq, 8gb Ram, 250 Evo SSD, 960M 2GB and a full HD screen (or 3200*1800 for + £20).
+ Games! Not at the highest settings, but enough.
+ Backlit keyboard is nice.
- Sucky Battery Life
- Portable still, but is a chunky fellow!
Now, anyone have any other opinions at all? Love to hear them!
Cheers,
Grady
