I've been bimbling on a prehistoric compaq for a while now since my 14" died. I'm soon going to be needing a new toy for when I deploy to sandy places (AGAIN ) for Christmas and into the NY. To that end I need something with the following:

WiFi.
Webcam.
Movie player.
Basic games play (e.g. football manager,Civ 5).
Rugged - some tablets are crack prone and I'm giong to be throwing it around a bit.
Small - to slide in my bergen/pocket.
Keyboard - hate typing on a touchscreen.

Quite a general list there I admit but I'm unsure what kind of system to go for, many of the lads go for Netbooks but they are agonisingly slow in my experience. I also don't want the most fantastic expensive kit becasue if I do break it I'd be a bit upset (so no £1k Macbook Air or Asus UX pls :p )

I've just been interested by the Acer V5-171 with11in screen.

Core i3 CPU and intel HD3000 gfx, 4gb ram. Cost around 360 quid. Seems like a good balance between netbook and laptop with spending 800 for macbook air.

As fishguts says, the lenovo is always a good bet.

Another shout for the Lenovo. I have an X121e (pretty similar to the X131e) and it's been brilliant over the last year. Much faster than a netbook, nice and light and very well made.

Adding an SSD worked wonders as well. Although you're limited to 7mm drives, Crucial have 7mm versions of their C400 series.

Inferno 11.6"

I take a M11x R3 with me on det, have used a number of netbooks and by far this has been the best, the Inferno 11.6" has more power, however l love the light up keyboard and styling.

Regards.
