Hi all,

Well my misuses wants a new laptop as the one she has now is pretty slow and cant hack many games at all.

Can someone spec me a laptop within the price range of £600 - £700 the full works inc Win Xp / Vista and that I can maybe upgrade later on through next year.

Mainly she Ebays and plays broken sword and Settlers 3 / Age of empires 3 but id still like it to run a hardcore game thought this year if possible. Wi-Fi is a must! if inbuilt then even better if not then with a pcmcia slot

Try looking out for a second hand laptop which was high end, Dell gaming ones should be good. 1GB ram and 6800 or 7800 series graphics cards. Anything with a 7600 in will be ok with todays standards :).

As a quick guide beware of laptops with the 7600GO gpu.

1) It only has 8 pixel pipelines instead of the desktop variants 12 (12 are available in the 7600go GT) thus its slower. (also clock speeds are reduced).

2) 7600gos with only 128mb of memory also tend to only have a 64 bit memory interface severly hampering the performance.

If I can find where I read all of this to I will link (it was on a big laptop comparison site for reference).

But either of those will be miles better at gaming than the integrated graphics from the likes of Intel you'll find on new laptops around the £500-600 mark.

Dedfinately I jsut thought I would point out the specs in case people had assumed it would offer identical performance to the desktop variant.

:)

But the 7600GO is still a decent gfx card for a lappy? or is there better?
