I know all about desktop components, but when it comes to laptops I'm a complete noob. I am looking for a laptop to be used for internet, music, video, word processing etc. Must have wireless internet, decent sized hard drive, 1 or 2 GB of RAM. Not too bothered about Windows Vista, but would be nice.

I am looking to spend around £500, maximum £600.

Gogogogogo!!

hahahaha that laptop spec is proper crap for the money! hahaha

get a macbook for a little more... £635 if your a student...

or you could get an acer core 2 duo 1.6 with 512 for £490 and upgrade to two gigs o ram for £80....( i did this this week )

dont buy by that truly crap specced laptop... i am actually shocked someone on here recommended it!

Because they can't really say get another one (well, not where from).
But you're right it is pretty crap for the money, got a better specified Dell for £360 (120gb HD, Turion 1.6ghz dual core)

Edit: Before anyone starts yes it was an offer, but they often have them.

yeah totaly.... i understand why he did it... because its from ocuk.. and he did say he couldn't really do it because its a competitor.

But if he did by that he would be getting well and truly ripped to shreds.

hehe totally shame ocuk have not jumped on that band wagon.

macbook for the win! ( they run windows too )

They do look very nice, not very good value though imo. Even with the student discount £635 for a laptop with 512mb ram and a 60GB hard drive isn't very good.

Doesn't really apply to computers, not for me at least... I barely keep them two minutes before getting something different :o :p

your basic guide is dont get anything less than core 2 duo.... there are loads of models out there.
