Yep, time for another spec me a laptop thread :D

I've been looking at a new laptop for a while now so I don't have to cart home my main PC for Christmas holidays etc... Ideally it needs to be able to play at least CS 1.6, and not too heavy that I can't carry it home on the 3 1/2 hour train journey.

I was looking at the Dell Vostro range, which do look quite good, but from what Dell say they seem quite heavy. Anyone got anymore suggestions?

a 3kg laptop isn't that heavy when you place it in a laptop bag or a backpack, or are you planning to literally carry the laptop about without a bag of some sort?
also i too thought the vostro range is rather tasty ;)
i've been looking at the cheaper 1000 series, which is priced nicely and from what i hear the 9 cell battery pulls in around 6-7 hrs with it web browsing and similar light usage. the only downside is the real lack of graphical power, im not sure if the integrated intel or ati graphics chips i.e. x200/gma 950 are CS 1.6 capable i'd maybe guess they are???

p.s. what budget do you have?
any particular requirements? 1GB memory? 100+GB HDD? Dual Core? Decent Graphics?

Heh, Intel dual core, 2 gig of RAM, 120 gig HDD, the works really :P I guess 3kg isn't really when in a backpack, but I'm always open to other ideas

i have the new Dell 1720 fully loaded to the max , very happy , a few things i dont like with the new system , which i found great on my 9400 machine

The Vostro is thick but feels nice and robust. My sister has a cheap Acer and that thinner.

It's actually 2.87KG but you won't even feel that in a ruck sack. I previous had a 2.4KG in the same ruck sack and it feels no different when its on your back.

The full dimensions are:

Width: 14.12" (35.8cm)
Height: 1.65" (4.5cm)
Depth: 10.59" (26.9cm)
